Our Approach

Confidentiality as a Professional Standard

Visitors reviewing this portfolio may reasonably ask why the project list appears modest relative to a career spanning over 35 years. The explanation is straightforward: a considerable proportion of my recent work has been undertaken through contracting and consultancy engagements with organisations in the automotive, marine, rail, aviation and architectural sectors, frequently in connection with research and development programmes governed by non-disclosure agreements.

I regard confidentiality as an integral component of professional practice rather than an inconvenient constraint upon it. Accordingly, I adhere to the following principles in every engagement:

  • The scope of permissible disclosure is established and agreed at the commencement of each project.
  • Client work is not referenced, published, or alluded to in any form without explicit written consent.
  • Projects that cannot be publicly attributed are omitted from this portfolio entirely, rather than described in obscured or partial terms.
  • Techniques, tooling, or intellectual property developed in the course of one engagement are not applied to another without the originating client’s authorisation.

I recognise that this approach results in a published portfolio that understates the current scope and volume of my work. I consider this an acceptable trade-off in exchange for the trust my clients place in me. Prospective clients wishing to understand the breadth of my recent experience in greater depth are welcome to contact me directly; any such discussion will, of course, be conducted under the same standard of confidentiality I extend to all clients.

I remain available for contract and consultancy work across the automotive, marine, rail, aviation and architectural sectors, alongside the boatbuilding and restoration work shown in the Projects section of this site.
