Flyin’ Furkin

Known to her crew as the Flying Ferkins, this boat carried Andrew Delaney and Guy Watts of Team MSS across the Indian Ocean in the inaugural Woodvale Indian Ocean rowing race, finishing on 30 July 2009 after 102 days, 13 hours and 40 minutes at sea.

The crossing set a run of world records for a pairs team: first to cross the Indian Ocean (assisted or unassisted), first to row it unassisted land to land, and the fastest pairs crossing on record — including a joint 24-hour distance record of 72 nautical miles and a 7-day record of 449 nautical miles, an average of 64 nautical miles a day.

Other pairs may go on to beat several of these marks, but the land-to-land record set by the Flying Ferkins is one that can never be taken — nobody can row further than land to land.
